Have you ever think about some things we do? We walk into shopping malls, plaza's, super markets, boutiques and buy things straight from the rack without questioning the high price of the things ranging from fashion to groceries. We pay whatever is written on the price tag and even go as far as tipping the staff, but the moment we walk out the door and meet the widow hawking bananas or oranges on the street, our bargaining game set off and we swing into action.
When the woman say to you that her bananas are worth N150 of your selected choice your bargaining skills quickly springs up and you tell her you are going to pay N70 and if she narrates to you on what it cost her to acquire the wares and the influence the present economy situation has on the procurement of the wares, we further more stands our ground and even make her know our current price of N70 is at the high side, if she refuses to succumb we hesitate and walk away, we almost speed off if we are driving. But on a second thought of going home with nothing, staring at the faces of the children who is expectant of the day meal, money to put food needed on the table, shelter above their head and clothes on their back she will be force to sell with little or no gain as "half bread is better than nothing".
In her heart she believe that the next day will be better, its even worse if a child is hawking as some buyers take advantage of the little ones.
I want you to have in mind as you eat those delicious bananas or suck on those sweet oranges, whatever goods it may be, that these road sides sellers, don't go hawking to buy designers clothings, perfumes or bags but they are only trying to LIVE for that day and save the little left overseas if there are any. So when next you are buying from a road side seller be fair in your bargain.
