An heir to the Danish throne has been rescued from dangerous surf in Australia.
Prince Christian, 10, got into difficulties while swimming at Mermaid Beach on Queensland's Gold Coast last week and was saved by a local lifeguard named Nick Malcolm, He has been called a
hero for plucking the prince - the son of Australian-born Crown Princess
Mary - from the ocean.Mr Malcolm has not wanted to speak to the media and preferred to let his boss, Gold Coast chief lifeguard Warren Young, explain what happened.
Danish Crown Prince Frederik was supervising his eldest child swimming at the beach when the drama unfolded on Thursday, Mr Young said.
Christian was swimming in a designated safe area - between flags - but was caught out of his depth in a rip current.
Mr Young said the boy was a "good little swimmer" and did not panic.
Mr Malcolm then paddled out and pulled him from the surf.
"It was a very simple little, short trip in for him and he was fine and his parents thanked the lifeguards as they left the beach. It was all really low key," Mr Young told Australian Associated Press.
