Grieving residents of Abule Ake in Idi Aba area of Abeokuta, Ogun State, and members of the Oloruku family are battling to unravel why a woman in a fit of rage killed herself, husband and three children in a night inferno she willfully ignited on the family home.
The charred remains of the woman , Mrs. Elizabeth Oloroku (44), her husband, Michael Oloroku (45) and their three children – Racheal, Victori and Esther were discovered by neighbours after a midnight fire ignited by the woman razed their home.
The Nation gathered the husband and the wife, who is a staff of Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Abeokuta, had been having a disagreement before the unfortunate incident.
Our correspondent gathered that family members and neighbours had tried to resolve the conflict between the couple, but were unsuccessful until the woman took the decision to kill herself and other family members on Monday night.
She reportedly came home on that fateful day with a can of fuel and neighbours and children had thought it was for the generator, but while her unsuspecting family members had gone to bed, she sprayed the building with the fuel and quickly set on fire after she had locked everywhere to prevent anybody from escaping.
The fire, it was gathered, started at about 11:30pm and helped by the harmattan breeze, it soon spread and engulfed the whole building with none of them escaping the raging flame that burnt woods and metals among others.
The state’s Police Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said the police is investigating the immediate cause of the incident.
